Actually in his shoes it wouldn't be the State I'd be most concerned about. If you caught the earlier TV coverage from the prison, at the time he was initially supposed to be released the crowd seemed on the brink of riot with a lot of shouting and finger pointing between those who were waving "hero" banners and the equally sized crowd waving "death to traitors" placards - The latter had vanished by the time he was actually freed.

I don't think what he did was particularly treasonous, he didn't really reveal the existence of Israels bomb, he just acknowledged it.
Further, whether by coersion or stupidity he marked himself firmly in the "tinfoil hat brigade" with his speech to the press, in which he blamed everyone except the Pope and Osama Bin Laden for his capture & imprisonment.
